Community of the Week: Airbnb
As someone who has previously been an Airbnb host, I can personally attest to how effective and resourceful the Community Center was in helping me thrive. Even today, whenever I stay at an Airbnb, I make sure to ask my host if they’re aware of or active on it, and most everyone raves about how wonderful the space is. It’s no wonder why it deserves this week’s spotlight for Community of the Week!
What I like most:
The user interface is STUNNING. Simply stunning. It’s completely on-brand, and the information presented to me on the home page is all completely relevant to a host’s immediate wants and needs.
The company truly believes in the power of Community. This is evidenced by the resources provided to staff the Community Team, a truly talented group of people completely dedicated to executing the vision and serving members*. (One could only wish that all companies invested this much in their community or had the means to.)
I love that they launched their most recent series of digital events for their host members by holding The Host Talk!
My wish list:
It would be great to see even MORE digital events or activities happening on a consistent basis, something the hosts could continuously look forward to. I understand though, that it’s tough to plan for these when your Community Team is moderating such a busy space.
There is a Host Advisory Board, made up of 17 members from 14 countries, and it’s a major perk of the community to be selected for it, however, there is no mention of it whatsoever on the home page. Also, it’s hard to find more info on it from searching the Community Center. I was able to find more details, but only by going to the Resource Centre, which is a separate space.
*Full disclosure: Airbnb is a former client.
Please do share about your experience using the Airbnb community!
This is part of a weekly series where I’ll select a community I’m inspired by and write about it. Sometimes they’ll be ones that I’m a member of. Sometimes they won’t. Sometimes they’ll be clients. Sometimes they won’t. Each post will share what I enjoy the most about that community, and if you’re familiar with it, I hope you’ll share what you like about it, too.
Do you have a nominee for Community of the Week? If so, send me a brief email with the name, URL, and a few sentences as to why I should highlight it and check it out.
