Community of the Week: ServiceNow
I first heard of the ServiceNow Community when a former client went to work for the company. Not long after that, I began seeing numerous posts in my LinkedIn feed from their community members sharing their accomplishments. Here are a few examples:
These posts caught my attention, because this is rare. (Though I do LOVE when it happens!) There are many many successful enterprise brand communities in the world, and you don’t see many of their members sharing posts like this on LinkedIn. That’s why it’s key to my review this week…
What I love:
The ability to create raving fans! These are both fans of the community AND of the brand. The posts I share above are evident of that. Think of all the additional traffic and promotion the community is getting because these users are taking the time out to create these posts on their own time.
Use of interactive media. On some of the forum category pages, I saw videos and even podcast episodes linked at the top. This would make for an exceptional experience for a new user to one of these areas who could engage with the content to have a more clear understanding of what’s being discussed in that forum.
A robust events section! There are plenty of opportunities to attend Expert Events to foster that deeper connection to the community.
My wish list:
The home page is promoting a message at the top that says, “New leaderboards. We’ve made some updates to our leaderboards to make them more dynamic.” And yet, I don’t see any leaderboard on the home page. (If you’ve been following these Community of the Week posts for a little while now, you’ve probably realized how much I love leaderboards.) I do see them on each of the forum category pages though, and it may be that’s on purpose and part of their strategy.
The home page is extremely text-heavy. I’d love to see more of that rich media utilized on this page. Perhaps a video that introduces the community team?

This is part of a weekly series where I’ll select a community I’m inspired by and write about it. Sometimes they’ll be ones that I’m a member of. Sometimes they won’t. Sometimes they’ll be clients. Sometimes they won’t. Each post will share what I enjoy the most about that community, and if you’re familiar with it, I hope you’ll share what you like about it, too.
Do you have a nominee for Community of the Week? If so, send me a brief email with the name, URL, and a few sentences as to why I should highlight it and check it out.
