Community of the Week: Turbo (Intuit)
Taxes and finance might not be everyone’s favorite topics, but the Intuit Turbo Community* has figured out how to bring together people who love talking about them and connecting with others who love to talk about them.
What I love:
The Champions Program. I know how much went into the creation of this program, and how much time and effort is still put into maintaining it (since it encompasses all of Intuit’s communities, not just this one). I regard this program as the crème de la crème of VIP or ambassador-type programs.
Integration with the product. As a user of the TurboTax product, it THRILLS me to see the community so heavily integrated in it. I particularly like that, when I ask a question within the product, the search results include solutions from the community.
Iconography. Depending on a user’s permissions and rank, certain iconography may be visible on their profile. The Turbo community’s use of this is sleek, clear, and on-brand.
My wish list:
Enhance the Meet The Experts section on the community home page. Rather than this just being a carousel of profile information, I think it would be valuable to show fewer experts in this section (rotating them on a regular basis) and provide some fun info about each, such as: favorite food, what they’re watching on Netflix right now, etc.
I’m a little surprised that there aren’t more groups for a community this large. I only see two of them. Then again, I firmly believe that groups should not be created unless there’s a demand for them or an obvious business case, so perhaps there’s a reason for having only two.
*Full disclosure: I have previously worked with this community, however, I was not asked to publish this post nor were they aware I was going to.

This is part of a weekly series where I’ll select a community I’m inspired by and write about it. Sometimes they’ll be ones that I’m a member of. Sometimes they won’t. Sometimes they’ll be clients. Sometimes they won’t. Each post will share what I enjoy the most about that community, and if you’re familiar with it, I hope you’ll share what you like about it, too.
Do you have a nominee for Community of the Week? If so, send me a brief email with the name, URL, and a few sentences as to why I should highlight it and check it out.
