The Benefits of Shortform Audio for Communities
A quick welcome to everyone who subscribed after seeing my posts in the Community Club and Community Breakfast emails.👏 I’m thrilled to be connected with you here and hope you find value in this content!
Today’s post is a bit different in that it’s an audio clip itself. Click the image below to listen to my unedited, unrehearsed, three-minute Racket!
Shortform audio is a hot topic right now, so as a strategist, I can’t help but wonder what this means for digital communities. I immediately thought of two benefits (which you’ll learn about if you listen to the recording or read the transcript below here).
What are some other ways you think shortform audio will bring value to online communities?

Hi everyone. This is Jenny Weigle, and welcome to my first racket.
What is a racket?…I am sure you're probably asking. I just became aware of this site and this medium about a week or two ago and what I have gathered is that these are short form audio recordings that you can either do solo or you can invite people to be part of.
They last a maximum of nine minutes.
So gotta get that information in fast and I will just preface this with everyone knowing that this is not an ad.
I am not being paid by Racket.
I am just playing around and having some fun with some new technology.
And the first thing that came to mind when I first saw Racket was, how can this help the communities that I work with, which are enterprise brand communities, for the most part?
And two things came to mind.
The first one was around on onboarding.
How wonderful would it be if every moderator Community manager had the time to send a personal racket to someone when they have just joined the community to welcome them in?
I think that personal touch would go such a long way and maybe that's more realistic for communities of a smaller size right now because as you get larger, that is a very hard thing to scale.
But I just thought that would be such a neat idea and such a personal touch.
Oh and here’s a hint hint to all the platforms out there…
What if this was some kind of capability that was built into the platform already for the community manager or, again, moderator to do? And then my second thought was around personal invites.
So maybe your community is ready to launch a VIP program for your super users, or your most active members and you could create something like this and hear someone's voice.
Inviting me to something through this versus me reading the invite over an email…that goes a long way and that is one of the reasons I am already liking this idea of these short form recordings and I think we're just beginning to touch the world of audio and how it will benefit communities.
So, if you have made it this far, thank you very much.
I appreciate that.
And please let me know what you think is the future of audio with communities?
How will it benefit?
How well, how can we integrate it into the current digital destinations that people are coming to?
I am all ears and thanks again for your time if you made it to the end here.
Yeah I feel like I need to close with something really witty but I don't have anything except for my sincere thanks for your time.
Thanks a lot of everyone.
Bye.
