Don’t tell me that browsing mindlessly on TikTok doesn’t prove to be valuable. That’s how I found out about celebration surveys, thanks to this video.
What’s a celebration survey?
In the context of a Community, it’s a survey you send to members asking how they want to be celebrated and rewarded. This is an opportunity to find out what they like, what their preferences are, and what motivates them. THEN, use that info for planning gifts, awards, surprises and delights.
There are 2 sections to this survey:
Milestones that matter: Ask your members about the milestones or bucket list items that matter in their lives. Yes, marriage and babies are common ones, but not everyone will experience those, or wants to experience those. Your members might have other major moments they want celebrated, such as completing their first triathlon, or hitting a fundraising goal.
How they want to be rewarded: As mentioned in the TikTok video, not everyone drinks coffee. And not everyone orders off Amazon. If you’re going to reward your community members, why not do so with a gift that is going to mean something special, and perhaps even motivate them?
A few things to know about celebration surveys:
They should be regarded and communicated as completely optional. You’ll be asking some personal questions, so please respect the fact that not everyone will want to share that information. Also, it’s perfectly fine if someone chooses to fill out only some of the questions and not all of them.
Don’t send out the survey unless you truly plan to A) celebrate the milestones and B) reward them with the type of gifts they request.
These surveys are best sent out during your onboarding of new members. If you forgot to send one, or if you’re just learning about celebration surveys now, it’s still a great way to check in with current members!
Use a survey tool that’s right for your members (maybe there’s one they’re already used to), and keep in mind the survey length and how much time you’re asking of them to complete it.
