Community of the Week: MURAL
In case you’re not familiar with MURAL, I’ll let you in on a little secret…it’s a strategist’s dream. MURAL is an online workspace for digital creation and collaboration. The MURAL Community is a place where I can learn from other users and ask questions about the product or how to use it.
What I like most:
Community Bingo is brilliant! It’s a unique and fun onboarding tactic. Plus, the game itself utilizes MURAL’s product, so users are getting familiar with the community AND the product’s features at the same time. How many other product communities have the capability to do both those things at the same time? It’s beyond impressive to me.
MURAL is promoting the community on social channels, as evidenced by the LinkedIn post above. If your community is public, it’s always smart to showcase it on your social channels on an ongoing basis (not just once). Kudos to the community team for their efforts to get the word out!
The categories are referred to as “Neighborhoods,” which gives a home-y feel right from the beginning. My favorite one? Consultant’s Corner. Obviously!
My Wish List:
I’m a big fan of a leaderboard on a community’s home page. This is just my personal behavior, but when I’m new to a community, I like to peruse the leaderboard and even follow some of the people on it. If they’re showing up on a leaderboard for being super active, it’s likely they’re writing lots of content that I’ll be interested in.
Simplicity in the member’s titles (or perhaps they are rank names?). On a post, they are a little repetitive as evidenced in this image:
What’s YOUR impression of the MURAL community? If you’re reading this in your inbox, just hit reply to send me your response privately. If you’d like to share publicly, scroll to the comments section below (or, again, if you’re reading this in your inbox, click on the title at the top of the email. Then, scroll down to the comments section.)
This is part of a weekly series where I’ll select a community I’m inspired by and write about it. Sometimes they’ll be ones that I’m a member of. Sometimes they won’t. Sometimes they’ll be clients. Sometimes they won’t. Each post will share what I enjoy the most about that community, and if you’re familiar with it, I hope you’ll share what you like about it, too.
Do you have a nominee for Community of the Week? If so, send me a brief email with the name, URL, and a few sentences as to why I should highlight it and check it out.
I mostly play in Miro, but I've seen Mural and it seems like a really good product, too. I love the community BINGO game to familiarize members with the tool. Great idea!
Eeeeeeps! Thanks for making my day/week/month with these kind words and constructive feedback! Bingo was such a fun idea, and we're so happy with how it turned out. A leaderboard is coming down the line but I don't have the fine deets on timing there 😃 And yup, totally agree that the role labels from Vanilla/Higher Logic make things a little complicated. Hard to believe this Community is only ~10 weeks old, but we're iterating like crazy! Glad you're on this wild ride with us.
